secure-docs

Your contractors read your documents. They don't walk away with them.

secure-docs keeps your clients' papers encrypted and shows them, read-only, to the person you choose. Every page they see carries their name, so if a copy ever gets out, you know where it came from.

For translation agencies, notaries, law firms, HR teams and accountants.

Type your own address. This is exactly how it lands on a page someone opens.

The reader gets an image of each page, never the file. Switch to another window and the page blurs.

The life of one document

A translation agency receives a client's passport, has a freelancer translate it, and hands back the certified translation. This is the log secure-docs keeps for that file, line for line.

Crop it. The name is still there.

No website can stop a screenshot, and we won't pretend otherwise. So the reader's name, email, the time and their IP address are burned into the pixels, repeated across the whole page. Any piece big enough to read is big enough to identify who took it.

A tight crop around one paragraphThe name repeats every few centimetres, in both directions.

How you share today

Most sensitive documents still travel as email attachments or shared-drive links. Here's what each lets the recipient do once it's left your hands.

Two requests to a working link

Upload the file, then ask for a link in the reader's name. Send them the URL, or render the pages inside your own app. Use the dashboard if you'd rather not write code at all.

The fine print

Encryption. Each file is encrypted with AES-256-GCM under its own key. File names are encrypted too. The keys are wrapped by a master key that is never stored in the database, so a stolen copy of the database is unreadable.

Originals stay put. A document you upload to be read can never be downloaded, by the reader, by your API key, or by us through the product. Only files you mark as deliverables can be.

Screenshots. They can't be blocked by any website. What we do is make every image identify its reader, block printing and copying, and blur the page when the window loses focus.

Links. Each link is made out to one person, expires on the date you set and can be revoked at any moment. Anyone holding a valid link can open it, so treat it like a password.

The log. Uploads, openings, every page shown, downloads, revocations and deletions are recorded with the time and, for readers, the IP address.

What isn't covered. Someone with root access to our server could read the master key. This is not end-to-end encryption. We hold no ISO 27001 or SOC 2 certification.

Where it runs. Hetzner, in Germany, inside the EU. Deleting a document erases its ciphertext and kills its links. Full threat model

Built inside a sworn-translation office

secure-docs started at Traduction Expert, a certified translation service in France. Its translators need to read passports, birth certificates and court rulings closely, and the office needed to be sure none of those papers stayed on a freelancer's laptop afterwards. It still runs every one of their orders.
